The Doonbeg Seafood Festival will take place from July 16th – 18th. The Festival will be officially opened by radio and television presenter George Hook who will also be presenting his popular radio show live from The Lodge at Doonbeg Golf Club on Friday afternoon.
Throughout the weekend the festival will feature cooking demonstrations from both local and international chefs. Five chefs will offer their talents on Saturday and five on Sunday. Celebrity chef Clodagh McKenna will return to the festival for a second year running, Clodagh will be joined by international chefs Ben Pollinger from Oceana restaurant in New York and Oran Daly of the The Fjord Restaurant in Connemara. Japanese chef, Hisashi Kumagai will return for a second year featuring his delightful and unique Sushi dishes. Local chef Adrian Medvec of Morrissey’s restaurant and Gabriel Schummp of Tubridy’s Restaurant, both of Doonbeg village will delight the audience with their culinary skills. Executive chef Aidan McGrath of the Wild Honey Inn, Lisdoonvarna, recently awarded the Michelin Bib Gourmand award will also attend.
Throughout the weekend a variety of events will take place including angling demonstrations, a fish market, boat trips, curragh racing, and vintage rally, amongst other activities. The festival has something for everyone from foodie’s to families, couples to children.
Children can enjoy pony and trap rides, puppet shows, face painting and a crab fishing competition.
The festival, which is organized by the people of Doonbeg, reflects the great local fishing tradition and the emphasis on seafood in the local restaurants in the area. The village of Doonbeg has a history of promoting successful festivals with the Doonbeg Jazz Festival, a major highlight in West Clare.
